About WikiKent

Why WikiKent?
A part from the entertainment value it is a useful tool to find out information about the place/area in which you live. Who once lived in your home or village? In some instances what today is considered a desirable area was once little more than a hovel, or a hamlet full of peasants scrapping a living from the soil. The sleepy village down the road might well have been the powerbase for events of national importance, you will never know until you start to research; WikiKent provides all of the information you need at your finger tips in the comfort of your own home.

The future:
As Rome wasn’t built in one day neither will WikiKent, we see it as communal resource for the residents of Kent to add their own snippets of information to this historical directory. Eventually every town, village or hamlet will be included; no place in Kent is too insignificant to feature

Editor:

As a freelance writer my work has appeared in national broadsheets, tabloids, and magazines too numerous and varied to mention. I have written about many things but my all consuming interest is history, a subject that is full of wonderful characters and amazing stories. History can invoke emotion and prejudice like no other subject; it has a great deal of impact on the modern world with allegiances etc so it is important to have a good working knowledge of the subject to help understand prejudice.... like the simple word crusade and the reaction it incites in the Middle East. PR isn’t just a tool for modern day manipulation, it was used to distort the facts by rulers like William the Conqueror and Henry VII both of whom had negligible claims to the throne!

History is a complex subject that cannot be dealt with via logic alone or even using the moral standards of today that is why there are so many alternative theories about famous characters from long ago. History is increasingly perceived to be 'dumbed down' or politically manipulated so it is important to ensure that I carry out as much research as possible but I am ready to be corrected if other evidence becomes available

One thing is certain if we do not learn from our past we will not move on in the future. I hope you enjoy reading about your town or village as I have researching. If you have anything that you feel is worth including please feel free to submit it
